You can find Middleton Methodist Church on Hopewell View, which is opposite the Conservative Club on Middleton Ring Road. Our main Sunday morning service is at 10.30 am. There is an All Age service on the second Sunday morning of each month, designed to appeal equally to young and old, but everyone is welcome on any Sunday. Once a month the service includes Holy Communion in which we share bread and wine to celebrate Jesus' presence with us and to remember that he died for us. On the third Sunday of each month there is a service at 6.00 pm at Aire Court, a care home for elderly people on Lingwell Grove, Middleton. This service is organised by Churches Together in Middleton and brings together Christians from all the churches in Middleton. We welcome enquiries about weddings, baptisms, acts of thanksgiving for the life of a child. For further information, please click here. On Tuesday afternoons at 3.30 pm the Happy Tuesdays after-school club meets. Happy Tuesdays welcomes children and young people between 8 and 13 years old for a time of fun, games and learning. Wednesdays Each Wednesday at noon there is a lunch organised by Middleton Elderly Aid. Once a month the lunch is followed by an afternoon of social activities. Thursdays On Thursday afternoons at 1.30 pm there is a gentle exercise class for older people. Saturdays On the last Saturday of each month at 2 pm a Sequence Dancing group meets. We work closely with Sure Start Middleton as they support young families living on the Manor Farms Estate close to Middleton Methodist Church. There are three rooms available for hire: a hall, a meeting room and a kitchen. Our hire charges are as follows: Hall, meeting room and kitchen: £16 for the first hour and then £7 for each following hour. Hall and kitchen: £14 for the first hour and then £6 for each following hour. Kitchen: £12 for the first hour and £5 for each following hour; this also includes use of the meeting room if required. Meeting room: £6 per hour. We offer a discount of 5% for regular bookings. For further information about any of the activities in the church or if you wish to make a booking, please click here. |

GOOD NEWS: Already we have raised over £59,000 towards the Overcoming Barriers project! £19,318 Money held by church £15,000 Onyx £ 5,920 South Leeds Area Committee £ 8,000 Charitable Trusts £ 5000 Leeds Methodist Council & Extension Society loan (to be re-paid by local fundraising) £ 3,048 Connexional Property Fund grant £ 1,000 Circuit Advance Fund £ 940 Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation £ 500 Leeds Methodist Council & Extension Society grant £ 470 Leeds Building Society Charitable Foundation £59,196 WHAT OVERCOMING BARRIERS IS ALL ABOUT: We are keen to ensure that Middleton Methodist Church is accessible, safe, comfortable and welcoming to all members of the local community. For this reason we are looking to undertake a comprehensive and imaginative project called Overcoming Barriers to provide improved facilities for the community. The Overcoming Barriers project will improve access to the building and enable people to move more freely within it. The facilities available within the building will also be improved; for example, a loop system will be installed in both the hall and meeting room to help people with hearing impairment. The Overcoming Barriers project will involve the following work: + Creation of a new extension and ramped entrance; + The new entrance will open onto a widened corridor leading to the church and meeting room downstairs and the kitchen, hall and disabled persons’ toilet upstairs. + The corridor will include two small flights of stairs with a vertical lift alongside, separated by a central handrail; + The amount of available space in the hall will be increased (by about a third) by removing a stage. The hall will then be re-decorated and a loop system installed. The entrance to the hall will also be improved; + A disabled persons’ toilet will be installed in the hall; + The kitchen will be completely re-fitted; this includes the installation of an industrial cooker and the wiring required for an industrial dishwasher (which can be installed at a later date if this would be beneficial); + The meeting room will be re-decorated with new radiators (to replace a gas fire) and a loop system installed; + A new fire alarm and emergency lighting system will be installed throughout the building. We are sure that the Overcoming Barriers project will enable Middleton Methodist Church to provide better facilities for the current users of the building and will hopefully attract other local people to use it. A PRAYER FOR OVERCOMING BARRIERS Loving God, in your Son Jesus you tore down the barriers between people and the barriers between people and yourself, inviting them to share in the fullness of your gracious, forgiving and life-giving love. We are painfully aware of all the barriers which exist between people; barriers which cause so much pain and suffering. Like Jesus, we would offer a welcome to everyone – a welcome which reflects your love for all people. We pray that your Spirit would help us to overcome the barriers which exist between people in Middleton and which stop them from living life in all its fullness. We thank you for all the people and groups which seek to bring people together in Middleton to build community. May they know your blessing in their work. In Jesus’ name we pray.
